What is EMDR Flash Technique?
EMDR Flash Technique (FT) is a new, evidence-based approach for helping people deal with traumatic or distressing memories without needing to dive deeply into the painful details. Unlike traditional trauma therapies, FT is designed to be minimally intrusive, so clients don’t have to actively confront the trauma itself, which can be especially helpful when dealing with very intense memories.
What does the Flash Technique look like?
Flash Technique (FT) was initially created to complement EMDR therapy and can help reduce the emotional impact of troubling memories often in just 10 to 15 minutes. It uses techniques like eye movements or tapping, similar to EMDR, to help process these memories.
FT is typically used by trained mental health professionals, though people under their care might use it on their own for less severe issues. It's versatile and can benefit both children and adults dealing with various conditions like anxiety, depression, or PTSD.
In a typical FT session, the therapist helps the client focus on a positive memory or distraction while briefly interrupting this focus to process the troubling memory. This way, the client can work through their issues without having to relive them in detail.
