About Julie
My personal journey began in my youth when I started searching for the meaning of life. This quest took me across the globe to Thailand, India, and Nepal, where I immersed myself in Buddhism, meditation, and languages. In Thailand, I practiced meditation and had the privilege of guiding others in mindfulness. My curiosity about Buddhism led me to India, where I studied Tibetan language, and later to Nepal, where I completed both undergraduate and graduate studies in Buddhism and Himalayan Languages. During this time, I also translated Buddhist texts and completed various meditation retreats.
As I delved deeper into Buddhism, I realized that true healing requires both spiritual and psychological growth. This insight led me to pursue graduate studies in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. The integration of these approaches has allowed me to offer compassionate care to people from all walks of life. My experience working with vulnerable youth has given me a deep understanding of the effects of childhood trauma and abandonment on adult life.
Being a second-generation Chinese Canadian, I am passionate about incorporating your cultural wisdom, knowledge, and spirituality into our therapy sessions. I believe in meeting people where they are and helping them discover themselves with acceptance, kindness, and compassion.
In therapy, I blend various approaches to find what works best for you, with a strong emphasis on creating a therapeutic relationship based on unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding, and authenticity.
I am trained as an EMDR therapist and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist by the IFS Institute. I also integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Transpersonal Therapy, Harm Reduction and Integration and into my practice.
When I’m not working, you can often find me taking long walks on the beach, paddle boarding, hiking, traveling, gardening, and spending quality time with my partner and cat.
